The South Australian State Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships were conducted over two weekends in September, 2002. (6, 7, & 8th and also 14th and 15th September, 2002) at Salisbury Bowl. This event attracted over 300 entries in the various grades. Six Barossa Valley Juniors, Aaron and Daniel Pellegrini, Stephen Doecke, Matthew Tscharke and Luke and Toby Herriman entered the competition and came away with 7 first place medals, 3 second place and 2 third place medals from 15 entries. These six boys, aged between 7 and 14, are members of the “Barossa Valley Junior Training Squad” who practice on a Sunday morning at Barossa Bowl. Their coaches, Val Smith and Helen Pellegrini, have spent a great deal of time training this squad and preparing them for competition. The State Championship was the first major competition outside of their home bowl for four of these bowlers and they not only had a great time competing against other juniors from all over the State, but were extremely successful in the process. Stephen Doecke and Aaron Pellegrini, who are the older and more experienced members of the team and who have competed in competitions before, helped the younger bowlers to success. of the 2003 “Country Cup Team” which will compete over three days at Elizabeth Bowl – Easter 2003.Congratulations to team members and to their coaches on a very successful tournament.
