Yorketown Telecentre 2001 - 6th March
2001
"Thank You" to the
Yorketown Telecentre and it's coordinator Andrew Cheel
for hosting our meeting last night and
especially to Peter Hancock for arranging it.
It was great to catch up with some of the
locals who had come to our meetings in Adelaide
namely - Pete, John and Ryan and to meet
some new "locals" Geoff, Rick, Andrew and the "Pastor" who are all keen
computer buffs.
One of our members - Bill was lucky enough to be holidaying in the area and
came along, apparently tearing himself away from a relaxing time.
We had a great trip over and back thanks to the
kindness of Bob who drove. I hope Bob didn't find it too hard to start at
5am that morning. (I only arrived home at 2:15am so I doubt Bob got much
more sleep). Those grateful to Bob were Richard, Dean and Myself.
Our furthest traveler was Dean who was visiting from Darwin.

to be present for photo - Pastor Heidrich)
There was quite a common theme among the
group talking about the old computers they started with and what had changed
right through to the latest technology, thanks to Andrew who had been to a
HP and Telstra demo late last year for bringing us some of the latest news.
Some Delphi problems were solved thanks to
Richard, web sites previewed thanks to Ryan and some sumptuous pastries and
cakes were consumed, thanks to some generous wives and Mum's I believe.
Andrew was kind enough to show us through the
Telecentre and tell us of a grant from Networking the Nation, and some of
the generosity of local people, educational institutions and industry who
helped contribute to this Telecentre and of some of the work which they do.
We can definitely say that Yorketown should be
very proud of their Telecentre and Andrew as Coordinator and it's committee.
It was such a good trip that we plan to do
it again next year.
I'd definitely encourage our members to
come along next time.
It's a long night, but we now certainly
appreciate that Pete & John and also Ryan come a long way to "touch base"
with other "computer enthusiasts",
